Shannon Harvey of Monkey 100 is a self-declared socially engaged artist (or S.E.A. Monkey). She uses t-shirt art to spread her messages about the environment. Her t-shirts are sweatshop-free, are made using a bamboo/cotton blend and are hand printed using only non-toxic water based ink. A message about the meaning of the shirt is printed on the sleeve, and it is meant to spur discussion amongst people. The idea of the name, Monkey 100, is that once monkeys see other monkeys doing things, they also start to do those things, and in this way new behavioural change is brought about. The 100th monkey is the number needed for the idea to really take off and is the tipping point to bring about social change.
