The Building Technology and Urban Systems Department, or BTUS, concentrates on helping industries develop technology to increase Energy Efficiency and improve the health and safety of not only the people occupying buildings, but also the environment.
Creating energy efficient buildings is important, because buildings use the majority of the electricity and natural gas in the country, and they also emit over half of the nation’s greenhouse gases. Not only will better energy efficiency help to reduce these emissions and leave a smaller carbon footprint, but they will also save consumers money on utility bills.
Some of the ways that we can help boost efficiency include performing an energy audit, suggesting window and daylighting strategies, and using new, advanced technologies as they become available. As we head into the future, the BTUS looks forward to continuing to use technology in innovative ways to increase energy efficiency in buildings.
