Restore - Sarnia

Habitat for Humanity is an international, non-profit, non-governmental, faith-based organization dedicated to eliminating poverty housing and to making adequate, affordable housing a matter of conscience and action.  Habitat for Humanity invites people from a broad spectrum of social, ethnic, religious and economic backgrounds to work in partnership with us to build both homes and hope for families in need. Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada which, in turn, is affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International.Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton receives applications from, and equitably selects, area families who qualify for Habitat home ownership.  Once selected, HFHS/L works in close partnership with our families to assist and prepare them for their successful transition to home ownership.  The mortgage portfolio we hold, in conjunction with the corporate and community resources we receive, is reinvested into the purchase of property and the building of more homes.   Similar to most affiliates across Canada, Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton operates a ReStore.  The ReStore is a social retail enterprise which receives donations of new and gently used building materials, home furnishings, appliances and the like.  These are sold at affordable prices to the general public with the net proceeds of the ReStore utilized to offset all operational costs of the HFH Sarnia/Lambton affiliate.   The success of our ReStore locally has meant that Habitat for Humanity Sarnia/Lambton has been able to channel 100% of mortgage revenues, corporate, community and individual donations into our home build programs.  Beyond its pivotal role in our sustainable business model, the ReStore plays an important role in environmental stewardship by actively re-cycling, re-purposing and diverting tons of materials from landfill annually.Habitat Sarnia/Lambton built its first home in 1994.  In total we have built nineteen (19) new homes and undertaken major renovations to four (4) others.  We have helped more than 90 people in Sarnia/Lambton find a place they can call home.
